New Year’s Day (January 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n

New Year’s Day is a global celebration celebrated on New Year’s Eve with festivities and gatherings. In Northern Cyprus, people celebrate with parties, fireworks and joyful gatherings. Although not a religious holiday, some homes and schools may display Christmas decorations and gift exchanges are common.<\/p>\n

Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day (April 23)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Dedicated to Turkish children by Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, this day highlights the importance of children as the future of the nation. It commemorates the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence and is celebrated with ceremonies, demonstrations and traditional music.<\/p>\n

Commemoration of Atat\u00fcrk, Youth and Sports Day (May 19)<\/strong><\/p>\n

This day commemorates the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence and serves to honor Mustafa Kemal Atat\u00fcrk, the founder of the Republic of Turkey. Celebrations include ceremonies, parades and cultural events throughout Turkey and Northern Cyprus.<\/p>\n

Peace and Freedom Day (July 20)<\/strong><\/p>\n

Peace and Freedom Day represents a significant event in the history of Cyprus when Turkish troops intervened to protect Turkish Cypriots following a coup. The day is commemorated with military parades and ceremonies.<\/p>\n

Social Resistance Day (August 1)<\/strong><\/p>\n
