New Year’s Day (January 1)

New Year’s Day is a global celebration celebrated on New Year’s Eve with festivities and gatherings. In Northern Cyprus, people celebrate with parties, fireworks and joyful gatherings. Although not a religious holiday, some homes and schools may display Christmas decorations and gift exchanges are common.

Turkish National Sovereignty and Children’s Day (April 23)

Dedicated to Turkish children by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, this day highlights the importance of children as the future of the nation. It commemorates the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence and is celebrated with ceremonies, demonstrations and traditional music.

Labour Day (May 1)

Labour Day, also known as May 1, celebrates the achievements of workers and the trade union movement. Although it is a public holiday, only government offices are closed, but many employers choose to celebrate it with their employees.
